German radio quotes Cairo station announcing General B C Freyberg commander of British imperial forces on Crete killed when his plane crashed en route to Alexandria. The report accuses Freyberg of desertion and cowardice amid retreat, while New Zealand troops at Suda Bay are described as embittered.

Even when ordered to report for induction he should not be discharged until acceptance is certain.
Sergeant Alvin C. York, at Arlington Cemetery on Memorial Day, urged immediate all-out aid to England and supported using convoys if needed. The Tennessee hero delivered a prepared address ahead of going on to the tomb of the Unknown Soldier, signaling strong wartime solidarity.
