The Commerce Department reports the first half of the year shows a record 3.3 billion trade deficit with June alone at 590.3 million, marking the ninth straight monthly red ink. Domestic leading indicators rose 0.5 percent in June after May’s 1.4 percent revision, signaling ongoing recovery.
North American Rockwell Corp won a 2.6 billion Aerospace contract to build five Space Shuttle orbiters over six years. The Downey California Space Division will deliver two test crafts in 1976 and three flight vehicles by 1980, with operations starting and expanding across subcontractors to exceed 50 000 jobs. Senator Tunney noted potential economic impact for California reaching 60 000 jobs and up to 4 billion dollars over 10 years.
Saigon AP tally shows last week 10 American KIA, 1 nonhostile death, 9 wounded, 2 missing. South Vietnamese losses 630 killed, 2,373 wounded. North Vietnamese and Viet Cong fatalities 1,949 with 79 captured. Allied totals: 45,828 KIA, 10,240 nonhostile death, 1,770 missing or captured, 303,244 wounded.

Charles W. Tapp chairs the new Consumer Affairs Office. Sal Gutierrez named vice chairman. Healy and others are asked to serve.
In Wendover Utah a 14 year old boy Jimmy Carlos died after a desperate 100 mile ambulance ride to a Tooele hospital. A flat tire blew four miles from town as Deputy Carter and Trooper Sparks fought extreme heat and oxygen shortages. Authorities say the tire may have been slashed deliberately.
The Louisiana Racing Commission approved an August 19 referendum in Bossier Parish on allowing Sawyer Downs to operate. A split fall and spring season of 100 racing days, excluding Sundays, was proposed to secure the vote. The plan follows a state law requiring assigned racing dates before a referendum.
Mr and Mrs C E Sowell and two daughters Pam and Phyllis of 1206 South 10th Monroe ended a 24 day vacation earlier this week after three weeks in Arkansas Missouri and Oklahoma Sowell returned to work at the Monroe Police Department today.
