Washington AP report says June prices rose 0.9 percent led by beef pork frying chickens and fresh produce. The market basket for a typical family of four increased by 15 dollars due to a 15 dollar farmer rise and 4 dollar middlemen cutback.
Supporters flooded McGovern at his South Dakota cabin with telegrams urging him to drop Sen. Thomas Eagleton after disclosure of his psychiatric treatment. About 30 telegrams arrived by late morning. others urged retention. McGovern rejected Eagleton's offer to quit and said he would wait for reaction.
River gauges report Camden at 2604.4 with a 0.5 fall and Monroe at 40.15 with a 0.2 rise. Data indicate shifting river stages and ongoing flood monitoring in the area.

Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission prepares to hear testimony within a month from subpoenaed witnesses over alleged improprieties by director Clark M Hoffpauer. Chairman Jerry G Jones said no decision on his job until after the hearing.
Sen. Jesse Knowles of Lake Charles demanded Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission director Clark Hoffpauer name legislators and other officials who have received favors. Hoffpauer admitted agency plane use for personal trips, while Knowles questioned the director’s statements and warned of a shadow on legislators who supported commission legislation.
