Israeli and United Arab Republic fighter planes clashed over Sinai early today amid Nasser reviewing a massive Cairo parade marking the revolution's 11th anniversary. The UAR said one Israeli plane was shot down and the others fled. no UAR planes were hit.
A squall line produced a tornado southwest of Jena that heavily damaged a combined store and service station owned by Alonzo Taylor a half mile west of the town. Mrs Taylor described roof loss windows and debris as heavy rain followed. Downed power lines and trees disrupted roads across the region with winds also affecting St Joseph Tallulah Monroe and other points.
New Orleans agency reports three recipients of the Freedom Awards from the Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation. Honorees include Miss Jean Castille a St. Mary parish teacher The Rev Warren Larroque a parochial school teacher from Ouachita Parish and N R Murray publisher of the Hammond Sun. Awards recognize efforts to promote constitutional principles.
Lloyd Allen Williams, 27, named club director to replace Kenneth Taylor who resigns August 1. Taylor becomes personnel and safety supervisor for Olin Mathieson converting plants. Williams, a West Monroe High School freshman coach and teacher, has summers as city recreation assistant. The board praised Taylor for steady leadership during tough years.
Cadeville Lodge No. 229 F and AM will meet at 1 p.m. Wednesday to conduct Lonnie Smudrick’s Masonic funeral. All master Masons are urged to attend. Also noted are three local men returning from two weeks as Army reserves instructors at Ft. Gordon Georgia. Buster Crowley Gilbert Marx and C J White served in the 4158-3 Shreveport satellite unit.

Fresno Mayor Arthur L. Selland declines attending the Western Sunbathing Association convention saying he is no prude. City officials say Riverside extension is needed for completion and financing cannot be covered by the city. Scogin and Bentz, local property owners, own concerns along Hudson Lane.
Washington AP reports House fate of stalled cotton legislation links to a proposed increase in Area Redevelopment Administration funding. Southerners seek support for the ARA measure in exchange for amendments to the cotton bill, potentially paving floor passage for both. The Senate approved a similar ARA bill. House action on the cotton bill remains tied to this deal.
A wind and hail storm swept through the Twin Cities this afternoon, damaging trees and flooding streets. Gusts reached 45 to 50 mph at Selman Field, part of a midwest squall line. A tree fell on a house at Glenmar and North 18th. Utilities reported 20 to 25 power failures and continued thunderstorms were likely.
A Louisiana man died in a hospital today from injuries suffered last week when his foreign made car crashed into a bridge abutment eight miles south of Hampton on U S 167. Charles H Meyers 52 of Bozier City La was the victim.
West Monroe City Council meets at 7 tonight to decide on accepting Layne Louisiana Co. bid of 33 233 to drill a new water well amid drought concerns. Mayor Norris notes the session extends a July 9 meeting and cites bond proposal planning for sewer plant. Council members include Mrs. Joyce Smith Charles Anding Earl Duncan A L Buddy De Loach Jr and George Wylie.
Thelma Pipe, 42, an accountant, fainted on a Windsor street and was revived asking for her deposit. An envelope carrying $2,700 vanished after she collapsed, as bystanders aided her.
At the 55th annual governors conference in Miami Beach, Democratic Gov. Albert Rosellini of Washington blocked a motion by Republican Gov. Mark Hatfield to suspend rules and introduce a civil rights resolution. With Vice President Johnson due to speak, Rosellini said there was no time for action. Hatfield pressed for a vote to place the issue before the conference, while Rockefeller and Hatfield expected little chance of success against solid Democratic support.
Los Angeles actor Spencer Tracy, 62, was described as considerably better and feeling fine today at St. Vincent's Hospital where he is treated for lung congestion. He collapsed near Katharine Hepburn's Malibu Beach home during a planned picnic. Doctors said the aide noted a pulmonary edema rather than a heart attack.
President Kennedy asked Congress to scrap country by country immigration quotas and adopt a skill based system. He argued the present limits favor northern Europe while wasting about 60,000 quota numbers annually and denying entry to qualified applicants from other regions.
Moscow AP Western delegates pushed to finalize a limited nuclear test ban agreement this week. Negotiators from the United States Britain and the Soviet Union reported only a few words remained to be agreed upon. Khrushchev could demand a broader package deal, while Harriman has no authority for a nonaggression pact. Kennedy considered sending senior lawmakers to Moscow for the signing.
In Karlsruhe the Federal Supreme Court convicted former West German intelligence official Heinz Felfe of spying for the Soviet Union. He received 14 years. Co-defendant Hans Clemens was sentenced to 10 years and Hans Tiebel to three years.
The Pascagoula Chronicle with a 8500 circulation was sold from Ira Harkey Jr. to Ralph Nicholson of Tallahassee. David Brown becomes editor with Harkey remaining chairman. The paper faced boycotts and bombings after editorial stands on race, but claims progress in advertising and operations.
Funeral services for Ralph Groves a Monroe man killed Monday were held in Monroe with a second service planned for Wednesday in Ft. Smith Arkansas He died instantly after falling 20 feet from a ladder while installing a sign at a service station near 2300 Louisville Avenue He was 54 and an employee of Neon Sign Service Survivors include his widow a daughter two sons two sisters and three brothers The burial is set for Roselawn Cemetery in Jenny Lind Arkansas near Ft. Smith.
