Judge Grants Injunction In Rapides Case

In Alexandria on July 19 Judge Culpepper granted an injunction barring Mrs W T David registrar of voters from receiving checking or certifying petitions for a recall election. He held legislators are not subject to recall by voters and that the constitution provides the removal method only through specified procedures. The suit by Judge H H White for I W Sylvester halted the movement.

Stockingless Girl Held in Texarkana Bootleg Case

Texarkana Arkansas July 19 federal prohibition agents expanded their crackdown into Texas arresting Dot Benson a 20 year old stockingless girl and Mrs Bonnie Fulmer a mother of two. Justice of the peace G W Rigland delivered a strong rebuke to female bootleggers as the two faced charges.

Jackson Street Structure to House Three Stores

A new brick single story building with three storefronts will rise on the Jackson Street and Stone Avenue lot bought by T L Tippitt and W A Walker Jr for 94500. The corner will host Walker Bros store No 2 Ideal Cleaners will occupy the second store and a rag store the third. W ER Terry has the contract and completion is planned soon with total cost around 15000. The purchase sets a high front foot value for Jackson Street.

Blaze Ravages Large Area in Angora Today

A major fire swept Angora with flames starting at 2 00 am and driven by strong wind. Six charred bodies were found in ruins as firefighters contained the blaze after hours. Over 1000 shops and houses were destroyed with vast financial losses. Ghazi Mustapha Kemal arrived at 3 am and led the firefighting effort.

Soviet says no war declaration against China over Manchurian issue

The acting head of the Soviet government told American reporters that Russia has no plan to declare war on China over Manchuria. He cited the Kellogg pact as precious despite potential losses tied to seizure of the Chinese Eastern Railway and trade suspensions. Jail family in probe of death of aged woman

Eu gene Burress his wife and their son and daughter were jailed in Kalamazoo Michigan as officers probed a murder linked to a supposed hex. The 75 year old Mrs. Etta L Fairchilds was found murdered in a cistern with a lead pipe and hammer and Burress confessed to the killing saying the victim cast an evil mental influence on the family. The couple claimed the woman’s influence also caused earlier deaths in the family.

Orleans Banks to Handle Half of Prison Loan

Baton Rouge July 19 Arrangements made by L Baynard Jr state auditor with the New Orleans Clearing House association for the borrowing by the state board of liquidation of half of the loans for the Louisiana State penitentiary and the Louisiana Dairy commission The New Orleans banks will handle 50 percent of the total and the other half will be apportioned among banks in the state outside New Orleans The penitentiary loan is for 280000 and the dairy commission is to get 25000 The money is to pay indebtedness incurred by the state institution and the commission during the past year Mr Baynard said he expected to have the money in about two weeks.

Leaders Press Governor for Monroe Chemical Plant Aid

Auto Wreck Claims One Life In Butler Alabama
