Harvey C Couch president of Louisiana Power and Light arrived in Monroe from New Orleans by Missouri Pacific. Folk School Closes After Talks by Judge Kelley

Alexandria July 20 Tears filled 10 year old John Seiper's eyes when he read his mother's pleas to come home. He had run away and rode a box car to McGehee Arkansas 196 miles from Alexandria before deciding to walk back. A stranger, S W Fullington a former Alexandrian, found him near Tallulah Louisiana and helped him reach Monroe then a train brought him home.

Illinois Central to Open Passenger Station Bid Hearings

Illinois Central will open bids Monday July 22 in Chicago for a new passenger station. A. F. Blaess will supervise construction with many contractors submitting figures. If work starts by August, completion and use are targeted for January 1 next year. The $100,000 structure will be near Five Points, opposite Seventh Street, rotated slightly toward the east and south. Monroe has waited years for the station’s return, and awarding the contract will be welcomed locally.

Louisiana Gas and Fuel corporation signs a five year lease with Bernhardt Realty for the entire seventh floor of the Bernhardt building in Monroe. West Monroe Awards City Drainage Contracts

City council let two drainage contracts after a special meeting with 13 bids. Concrete work for a 4 West Monroe project goes to Soman at about 510,000. A ditch outlet contract to Midland Construction Co of Clarksdale, Mississippi, pays 184 4 cents per cubic yard and runs roughly 5,000 dollars. The plan includes filling open ditch near Crosby Street with a cement cover and building a drainage ditch from Crosby to Black Bayou, removing about 25 000 cubic yards of dirt. The completed project aims to improve city drainage and relieve flooding.

Van Lear Leary and Niam Currey Sanders left Shreveport in a Ryan monoplane for a four day endurance flight. Robbers Strike New Orleans Plant Office For Payroll Cash

In New Orleans on July 20 a pair of masked robbers entered the Joka Iron Works office on South Banks and Perch Street and looted the cash drawer and payroll funds, escaping under a table while the other thief blocked the exit.
