Air Mail Postage Rates Shift to Eight Cents Now
Beginning today the air mail rate rises to eight cents for letters up to one ounce with 13 cents for each additional ounce. Existing stamps can be used for full postage, but letters should be marked Via Air Mail. The old five cent first ounce and ten cent additional ounce rate ends at midnight. The two cent letter stamp becomes three cents for all letters.

NEW ORLEANS July 6. Paul Jahncke Sr prominent businessman and social leader pleaded not guilty in criminal district court to an assault charge. Indictment names his son Paul Jahncke Jr and three other social figures in connection with an alleged beating of Nolan Maurin at a boat house near the Southern Yacht Club. Maurin says he was lured there after a personal quarrel with the younger Jahncke. Jahncke is brother of Ernest Lee Jahncke assistant secretary of the Navy.
