New Iberia Louisiana January 7 a mob stormed the home of Eugene Judice a farmer from Loreauville to lynch him for deserting his wife and abducting Leona Borel a 21 year old. Judice slipped away, the mob pursued, Leona wrestled the gun from him and it discharged in the scuffle. He surrendered with Leona as a material witness. Judice a prominent Iberia parish farmer claimed he and Leona loved each other and had planned to run away but returned after learning of threats and the mob move. He said he married his wife long ago and that Leona and he were coerced to spend a night in a corn crib before authorities intervened.
Miss Borel tearfully recounts how she and Judice argued as he threatened self harm. She says she begged him not to kill himself and blamed Leona for urging action. She describes bloodstained evidence and her struggle to stop the tragedy.
