A large mob looted downtown Youngstown causing destruction across ten business blocks and a major steel mill. Authorities reported widespread property damage and secure lines around the area as investigations begin.
Rioters in East Youngstown and nearby mills loot shops and destroy multiple blocks amid a night of violence. Three regiments of the state militia patrolled the area as fires raged and thousands were displaced. One man died and hundreds wounded. property losses reach about 1 million dollars.
Philadelphia hosts the biggest motor show ever, opening today and running until next Saturday night. The event uses double the floor space of prior shows with unique decorations and entertainment.
Seven men surprised workers during a post office robbery in Penns Grove New Jersey this morning. Three robbers were wounded and hospitalized after a confrontation with citizens and two were captured and jailed. Authorities were forewarned.
State Federation of Labor president T J Greer in Monroe asserts no misrepresentation of Col Pleasant and blames his delayed reply for the confusion. He notes letters were mailed to all candidates in early November with Barret and Parker replying promptly.
The will of the late J. E. Peters was filed for probate in district court today. Executors named are Fred C. Peters and F. S. Mulhearn without bond. He directs incorporation of his furniture and undertaking business, values the store building and stock at 452 shares of $100 each, and distributes cash and shares among family members including Mrs. Claire Whitfield and Mrs. Emma Whitfield. The will is dated February 8, 1918.
The Susan B. Anthony amendment to provide for woman suffrage by a constitutional amendment was favorably reported to the Senate by the suffrage committee. Senator Ransdell of Louisiana supported the favorable report, though his name did not appear on the formal record.

The Webb residence on Washington Street was nearly destroyed by a late night blaze between 1 and 2 am. Origin of the fire is unknown, back of the house and much of the roof were ablaze. Estimated loss about 10000 with 5500 on the house and 2500 on furnishings. Webb is in New Orleans on business.
T J Greer of Shreveport, president of the State Federation of Labor, will speak at Monroe City Hall Sunday at 3 30 p m to union men about Barret’s bid for governor and upcoming legislative proposals. He arrived in Monroe this afternoon.
Reports from Terrebonne Assumption Franklin and Rapides show Pleasant gains in the drive toward January 25. Leaders in Rapides and Winnfield indicate Pleasant leads in parish support with tours set. a large Pleasant club forms in New Orleans third ward as Democratic State Central Committee met.
New Orleans receives the battle flag of General Andrew Jackson during a formal ceremony with Illinois Governor Edward F. Dunne and a legislative delegation. The flag, sewn by New Orleans ladies over a century ago, commemorates Jacksons January 1815 victory against British forces.
The A and M Railway announces changes to its timetable with trains between Monticello Arkansas and Monroe. Train No 1 departs Monticello 6 30 am daily and Monroe 11 50 am with return at 1 30 pm. A daily mixed train runs to Monticello except Sundays and another Monticello to Monroe train runs daily except Sundays. Connections at Hallie Junction serve Hamburg passengers.
