John Brown 66, of Hale in Union parish, died in a Monroe hospital from a brain concussion after a Tuesday night crash between Sterlington and Spencer. He lost control, struck a tree, and the car was badly damaged. Surviving are his widow and three sons Leonard Jim Ollie and Ferris. Funeral set for Thursday at Liberty Church in Union parish.
Oak Ridge reports a curious remedy for lumbago: trap a young bobcat and parade it in town. The cure allegedly works when the sufferer, L. V. Farmer, is startled into brisk activity and finds his pain vanished.
Captain Anthony Eden, British delegate to the League of Nations, said if France refrains from sending troops into the Saar and Germany agrees, Britain would police the Saar with British troops during the plebiscite next month.

The Ouachita National Bank of Monroe receives federal approval to make insured long term mortgages for new home construction and refinancing under the National Housing Act. Up to 16 000 dollars loans over 20 years with federal insurance, first in Louisiana along with First Federal Savings and Loan of Shreveport.
As Christmas approaches the Good Fellows Fund appeals for donations to aid poverty struck children. With less than three weeks to go only 71.50 had been raised toward a goal of a thousand dollars, despite acknowledgments from Mrs. J S Bloch and others for various gifts.

A posse of nearly 500 state highway police and volunteers comb the parish seeking the boy who vanished after wandering with his dog to chase a stray pig. The governor may be asked to mobilize the national guard as the hunt continues.

Two men robbed a man on a Louisiana Avenue river ferry, taking his car and $65, then slugged a police officer who pursued them and escaped. The victim, Robert Evans, works for the U S engineers at Harvey Locks, Jefferson Parish. Officer Robert Childress, 54, of Sixth Precinct, was injured.

New Orleans December 5. The Louisiana Supreme Court unanimously dismissed Judge Thomas F. Porter of Lake Charles as moot in his bid to be declared the nominee and justice-designate. Justice Fred M. Odom stated Porter abandoned his case and did not participate in the reasoning of Justices Land Brunet and Higgins. Lieutenant-Governor Fournet, in New Orleans for board sessions, commented on the decision.

The Southern Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools may appoint a sub committee to investigate charges that Huey P. Long is effectively running Louisiana State University. The probe could take several months and may result only in a disciplinary ruling against the university, with Long himself not answerable by the body.
Associated Press reports a broad cold wave across the south with sub freezing temps. Nashville and Little Rock each hit 23 degrees while Green Bay set the coldest mark at 20. Other readings included Philadelphia 36 and New Orleans at 4 as warm air was forecast to return slowly.
