Delta Beta Sigs host their annual backward dance tonight at Riverside Country Club. A banquet precedes the event with installation of newly elected officers led by Miss Roberta Neal as president. Plans include rush parties, swimming party, picnic, all night gathering, and a rushee breakfast.
Gladys Rhodes Y W A hosted a surprise shower for Miss Margie Tarver at Ava Brucek’s home with Bible study, flowers, and a gifts table. Iced watermelon greeted guests including Harry Hebert and Alma Hodge as plans for Tarver and Hebert’s September 6 marriage unfold. A prior luncheon hosted by Mrs. C C Carroll at 618 North Fourth featured a linen gift and asters for the honoree.
Miss Eleana Brinsmade will host the regular weekly story hour in the Monroe Public Library garden Thursday from 9 30 to 10 30 a m. Attendance is rising with stories for both older and younger children. A boat ride was part of last week’s events honoring Miss Winifred Myer of Dallas and Miss Boyce Leigh Sadler of Alexandria with guests including Miss Winifred Myers and many Monroe residents. Mr and Mrs R A Wasson and their children returned to Baton Rouge after visiting with the Deans Selig. Mrs Louella Work of Alexandria visits Monroe, and Miss Helene D Auby Gaines left for New Orleans after a stay with her mother.
The week features church group meetings at First Baptist including the Philathea class at Mrs. L. T. Hastings home and an Euresian class election of officers at 317 Sixth Street. W. C. T. U. meets at West Monroe Methodist, and a Review club gathering is planned with Mrs. Fred Fudickar.
The first Lombardo film with Guy Lombardo and his Royal Canadians ends at the Paramount. It is a Burns and Allen comedy farce with Lombardo's orchestra, stars Joan Marsh and Ray Milland, directed by Norman McLeod. Veloz and Yolanda have a featured dance spot.
Judith Lane battles questions in a courtroom as Judge Morgan hears claims about an affair with Tom Bevins. Evidence includes a letter to her father while she faced claims of broken loyalties and forced entry into the Bevins household.
The testimony centers on Tom Bevins's alleged mental illness and the will contest led by Lamere. Judith Dale, questioned harshly by Lampere, describes her relationship with Bevins and her ambitions, while the judge notes the case aims to show the will's fallacy rather than persecute the beneficiary.
Miss Virginia Mitchell came back Tuesday from Chicago where she attended the Century of Progress exposition. She was a guest of friends in Chicago and Milwaukee during the visit. Mr and Mrs W B Snabnet and daughter Lavania left Tuesday for Chicago to attend the World's Fair.
