In Washington on August 28 the Interstate Commerce Commission ruled that the Norfolk and Western Railway must be excluded from any interest in operating the Old Dominion Steamship and Virginia Navigation Company under the Panama Canal act. In St Louis on August 27 Walter W Powell of Little Rock Arkansas confirmed rumors of his resignation as industrial commissioner of the Cotton Belt railroad, with J M Herbert vice president reporting the resignation had been accepted.
New York reports twenty-five children dead and forty-three stricken by infantile paralysis in the last twenty four hours, highlighting a grim surge in cases and urging preventive measures.
Louise Green, a sixteen year old Natchez girl, vanished Sunday from the American Rescue Workers home where she was held by order of Judge Dawkins. Authorities suspect kidnapping to prevent her grand jury appearance against Meredith McCormick for alleged assault on June 2 at the Quachite riverbank. Sheriff Grant and deputies are urged to locate her and any involved.

Private Paul Lecroix age 28 of D Company First Louisiana infantry stationed at San Benito Texas drowned in the Rio Hondo eight miles from San Benito Thursday night. Details are scarce but the body was shipped to his parents at Rayne Louisiana.
Wood Hi I. Wood a painter for Wm Stokes suffered a broken left leg this afternoon at three o clock when a scaffold in Walker Bros Grocer Co store collapsed with him and two other men The others escaped injury The scaffold rested on ladders and a 2 by 10 plank Wood's leg broke just above the knee
The Lincoln Parish Bank plans to reopen this week after legal delays. Directors have repaired capital and surplus with new investments including 25,000 from O E Hodge, 10,000 from Goodwill bond, and 2,000 from Mrs Goodwill, restoring capital and a 7,500 surplus.
Sheriff Arthur Grant received a telegram from Sedan Kansas reporting the arrest of W. L. Whittington who is sought in this parish on a charge filed by the father of a sixteen year old girl near Cheniere station. Whittington has a wife and two children and fled after the relationship was uncovered.
