Cleveland detectives uncovered bones on the lakefront dump identified as the 12th victim of the city’s torso killer. The head and upper torso of the 11th victim were found yesterday, with the coroner noting no 13th victim yet.
Louisiana Labor Commissioner B W Cason says the unemployment compensation fund is healthy and can weather a normal low mood. He notes the maximum benefit rose to 18 a week, with a two week waiting period, 8 880 contributing employers, 412000 workers earning wage credits, and checks totaling 2.2 million issued.
The Denver County Medical Society voted to create an independent medical service plan offering medical care to low income families under group prepayment. The plan, tied to the American Medical Association, promises subscribers free choice of their own physician.

Mrs M Judie of 207 North Fifth Street suffered a fractured collar bone and head lacerations when the car she rode in rolled over on the Winnsboro road near Monroe Tuesday night about 10 3. She was thrown against the car frame and taken to St Francia sanitarium in a non serious condition.
In Laclede Missouri Dr William F Lamance a former boxer turned osteopath is charged with first degree murder in the death of his wife Ella 29. Her body was found in a vegetable cellar near the couple’s home after a week missing report. He joined a funeral procession to bury her in Williamsburg Kansas as deputies questioned him and a coroner's jury recommended further investigation.
District Attorney Thomas E. Dewey told a blue ribbon jury that James J. Hines Tammany district leader, protected the Dutch Schultz policy racket. He said Hines attended a 1932 meeting planning to take over the racket with J. Richard Davis present. Dewey noted raids failed and Harlem shopkeepers acted as collectors.
DeWitt MacKenzie reports that August 15 passed without a German invasion of Czechoslovakia, noting France's air chief General Joseph Vuillemin visiting German military sites as a sign of easing tensions and speculation over Hitler's aims.

A deal closed between the People's Homestead and Savings Association and the Rodney J. Hobbes post transfers a corner property at Oak and Sixth streets to Monroe VFW. The sale funds future post construction while part of the site is sold to reduce debt. The post plans a Oak street facing building with 47 by 137 feet setbacks, remaining in current quarters on De Siard street until financed.
A Texas posse killed two escaping convicts and recovered two more bodies in the Trinity River, lifting the total dead to six and one recaptured from eight who fled Eastham prison farm. Names include Jode John, Frank Johnson, Jack Kinsey, and Charien Aston.

Ark August 17 peace officers hunted two Western bandits Mamilton and Ted Walters two miles east of the city after reports they planned to head there. A chase followed when the pair fled a stolen car and a road worker spotted them in the woods. Assistant state police joined the pursuit near the highway.
Mrs Mildred Phillips of Sterlington leaped from a moving auto when it lurched on the shoulder causing a crash risk. She suffered deep knee lacerations a chin cut and facial bruises. She was taken to Sterlington then Monroe Be Frances sanitarium. Doctors say injuries are not serious and she is expected to recover.
General John J. Pershing landed in Le Havre aboard the Manhattan from New York for a business visit as chairman of the American Battle Conferences. He appeared in good health and rose early at 7 a.m. to greet his arrival. He was met by his son Warren and Warren's wife, who plan to return to New York next week from their world honeymoon cruise.
