Ex convict Helaire Carriere who shot Sheriff Swords of St Landry parish near Elton was captured by Sheriff Reid and a posse at the old Putnam sawmill. Wounded from buckshot, he lies dying in Lake Charles jail. The capture followed a two week search through timber country between Elton and Oberlin.
