Thirty five carriers of the Morning World and News-Star were declared winners in a circulation contest and awarded a free trip to Shreveport and the Louisiana state fair. They will travel in special buses to Caddo parish city as guests of the two newspapers with returns to Monroe expected late tonight. The contest was deemed highly successful with a total of 400 subscriptions involved.

Simon Johnson a man about years old was fatally injured when he fell from the rear of a truck on Cypress Street and died en route to a sanitarium. Coroner Mengis said Johnson, intoxicated, was riding with others and was possibly struck by the truck or another behind it. He died of concussions and a skull fracture.
The L. B. Faulk post American Legion will meet Monday at 8 p.m. at their memorial home Forsyth park to develop plans for the Armistice day celebration in November. A large representation from all towns in the fifth district is expected.
The Monroe Garden club prepares a flower show on October 31 with Mrs. C. M. Flower as exhibit committee chairwoman. Prizes will be awarded in each class and ribbons given for superior exhibits. The prize committee includes Mrs. F. A. Reynolds and Fred Hanna. The schedule committee lists Mrs. Elmer Richards, Mrs. C. M. Flower, Mrs. Fred Fudickar, and Mrs. T. C. Rowland.
