Turner Battle, assistant secretary of labor, ruled Anna Sage known as the woman in red is guilty of moral turpitude and must be deported. He denied DOJ immunity promises and said the department lacks authority on charges outside its jurisdiction. Sage argued she led Dillinger to his death for $5,000 and a Purvis pledge to allow her to stay.
In observance of Columbus day banks courts and the parish clerk of court office were closed yesterday. The post office remained open. The Columbus Social club sponsored an open house at its DeSiard street headquarters and a dance planned for 8:30 this evening.
A 21 year old bride, Mrs Willie Mae Wood, was found dead in a Washington hotel room with her throat cut by a pocket knife. Her husband Herbert R Wood of Fairfax Va states his bride knew the undertaker E H Reaguer who survived injuries after allegedly fighting him. Cousin Anna O Bannon, 17, held as material witness as police await charges.
In New Orleans the tax evasion trial of Abraham L. Shushan, political lieutenant of Huey P. Long, centers on undisclosed cash transactions alleged as rebates from the Standard Dredging company. Prosecutors seek to prove more than $50,000 in unreported income for 1929 to 1933. The defense emphasizes disposition of the questioned transactions.

The Democratic executive committee of Ouachita parish sets Monday midnight October 14 as the zero hour to file notice of candidacy for parish and ward offices. No candidate may qualify after that date. In Monroe city, the Democratic executive committee sets Thursday midnight October 17 as the final filing hour for city offices. Primary elections are scheduled for January 2.
Washington reports indicate a double failure in the effort to end unemployment under the 4 billion dollar relief program. Job goals were trimmed from 3.5 million to 3.15 million as WPA delays and late allotments threaten even the reduced target. With under three weeks left, only six states had ended direct relief and applications continued to flow in.
