Polio Case Rate Drops Further Below Last Year
Government reports polio cases this year are 26 percent below 1955 levels. Last week 120 cases were recorded, under half of the prior year’s figure, with 1,864 cases year to date versus 2,434 in the same period last year. French Divisions Drive Rebels From Western Algeria
Elements of three French divisions moved to crush nationalist forces near the Moroccan border. The 4th Infantry Division crossed from Morocco to join the 12th Division in pushing rebels toward the sea where the 10th Division waited. In the Kabyle Mountains, two French divisions overran a rebel redoubt, retaking villages abandoned months earlier. Police in Algiers arrested seven leaders of the National Liberation Front.
