Amateurs Enter Statewide Talent Tournament at Neville High
Talent contestants from southern Arkansas and northern and central Louisiana gather at Neville High School auditorium Tuesday at 8 p m for a state wide amateur tournament. Acts range from hillbilly to modern pop and dance styles with radio personalities and yodelers featuring in the night show. Mayor Benoit to award the winning prize as doors open at 6 30 p m with advance tickets selling fast.

The S. S. James Eagan Layne liberty ship was launched at Delta Shipbuilding Company yards New Orleans. Sponsored by Mrs. J E Layne of Baton Rouge widow of a merchant seaman and former Esso Baton Rouge assistant engineer torpedoed and sunk April 8 1942 in the present war.

Eleven Navy and Marine Officers Decorated in Pacific Actions
Eleven naval and marine corps officers were honored at the New Orleans naval air station for air engagements in the Pacific. Lt. Com. Joseph Spengler earned two medals, with credits for sinking ships and destroying gun batteries, while Navy Lt. Roy R. M. Gibson earned a distinguished flying cross for damaging cargo ships. Four Marine flyers won air medals for actions on Wotje Island, and five Marines received commended ribbons for operations in the Marshalls.

A one evening training session for all Scouters will be held at 7 30 at the Jewish Temple. J Foster chair of the leaders training committee says the two hour course is open to executive members troop committeemen district committee members Cub scouts and Scoutmasters. Commissioner J W Webster will be dean with Charles B Cook and O H Voran assisting. A technicolor film Scout Trail To Citizenship will be shown. Refreshments will be served and credits awarded to all participants.
