Lamboley Named President of National Fraternal Congress

Harold J. Lamboley Supreme Advocate of the Knights of Columbus was elected president at the National Fraternal Congress of America’s 20th annual meeting in Minneapolis. A former Monroe and Green County judge now based in New Haven Connecticut, Lamboley has held the top post amid decades of legal and fraternal service. He pledged to guide the congress with dedication, citing the movement’s roots in independence and self-help.

Mayor Herbert H. Stuessy 60 died at 12 25 AM in St Clare Hospital from a cerebral hemorrhage suffered Monday night while presiding at a special City Council meeting He was ambulanced to the hospital at 9 45 PM He also suffered a fractured shoulder and head bump as he fell while reaching for the rest room Ray Timm became acting mayor Stuessy born January 18 1906 at New Glarus raised in Decatur Towns educated at Decatur School Brodhead High School and the University of Wisconsin He and June Mitchell married September 2 1940 They owned two farms west of Brodhead later moving to a new house in 1953 They observed their 26th wedding anniversary in 1965 He was serving his second term as mayor and was a former Brodhead Board of Education clerk and treasurer He was secretary of the Spring Grove Decatur and Albany Mutual Insurance Co and a Green County Holstein director.

Postmaster R J Myers announced Monroe residents will receive no postage needed cards in October to fill missing ZIP Codes. About 2 750 residential stops start Oct 10 with blank fields for common addresses. Rural and single ZIP Code areas receive only out of town cards. ZIP Code Week runs Oct 10 15.

Area Child Injured In Mishap On Farm

Three year old Michael John Kirschbaum, son of Alois and Mrs Kirschbaum of Route 1 South Wayne, was seriously injured on his father's farm yesterday when struck by a plow wheel. Found in a field by a farm hand, he was taken to Memorial Hospital Darlington then moved to St. Clare Hospital with cerebral concussion fractures of the left leg and jaw and multiple lacerations.

New Financing Tools Eyed for Young Dairy Farmers

Congressman Bob Kastenmeier today introduced three bills to aid young farmers with financing and to boost indemnity payments for milk tainted through no fault of the farmer. The Young Farmers Investment Act would allow FHA loans at 5 percent, with balloon final payment and refinanced options.

Schwager Named to Monroe School Board

J Schwager active in PTA work in Monroe was chosen to succeed L J Schroeder on the Monroe Board of Education. The vote followed talks on space for physical education and the closing of Niff one room school. The board also approved resignation of home economics teacher Mrs Nancy Nelson and named Marilyn Kubly as librarian at Ludlow Memorial Library.

State corn picking event plans discussed at Green County

More than 50 people helped shape the state corn picking contest with Oct 4 at Idle Hour Farm. George House said tent city is scheduled and about 40 commercial exhibits are lined up. Display space deadline was last Sunday. Manpower comes from NFO Farm Bureau watersheds and 4H plus other groups. University of Platteville students will be safety judges. The two hour meeting aimed to finalize arrangements for the event. An extra 100 feet of contest land will let spectators watch machine performance and field checks after picking and gleaning.
