Beef Barbecue Event Planned Here on Oct. 9
The Green County Beef Producers Association will sponsor a Round of Beef Barbecue at the county fairgrounds on Sunday October 9. Duane Helland of Juda will prepare the meal which includes a round of beef slaw potato salad ice cream rolls and beverage. A 4H horse show starts at 12:30 p.m. with prizes from beef producers and an ensuing auction of county 4H and FFA steers purchased at the Southern Wisconsin Junior Livestock Show. A quarter of a beef will be the big prize with tickets sold by beef producers or at Helland in Juda.

Son of Monroe doctor detained in Poland freed after nine days
Robert Tucker, son of Dr. Francis Tucker, a Monroe pathologist and Grinnell College student, was detained with fellow travelers in Poland for nine days after a photo sparked accusations of military objective spying. He contacted his father by telephone from Paris and will return to Grinnell to resume studies. The Tuckers had feared for his safety during August.

Donald Hefty Dies in Asphalt Roller Crushing
Donald Hefty, 32, of Honey Creek Walworth County, was killed when an asphalt roller he operated at the Wisconsin School for the Deaf rolled over an embankment. Hefty, an Amend Construction Co. worker from Elkhorn, was laying a new driveway and parking lot. The roller overturned and crushed him instantly.
