Wisconsin-Iowa game to feature 4000 high school musicians

At Camp Randall on Saturday September 17, over 4000 musicians from 51 high school bands are invited to join a massed halftime program. Eighty Monroe and other area players will perform under the baton of Meredith Willson, with Ray Dvorak directing Sibelius and the massed bands closing with 76 Trombones. Willson, hailed as Mr Music Man, will conduct Wisconsin's marching band in Here's Love after leading the massed ensemble.

Light frosts touched Green County with lows near 35 as a sunny day followed a rainy one. Monroe gauge logged .83 inches from 8 am yesterday to 8 am today, while Albany’s west edge recorded 2.1 inches yesterday morning with thunder and sharp lightning. Weather outlook calls for fair skies and a warming trend, with tonight’s lows 37 to 45 and tomorrow’s highs in the low 70s.

Auto Damaged Here Due to Motor Fire

A 1957 Chevrolet owned by Richard Witt of 2621 9th Ave was damaged shortly after noon yesterday when the motor caught fire at the corner of 10th Street and 13th Ave. Fire officials believe a faulty gasoline line started the blaze, burning wiring and the carburetor and blistering the hood. The Monroe Fire Department responded.

In Melfi Italy a waiter’s wife Maria Pietrantuono 36 delivered three girls and a boy at St John of God Hospital Wednesday night. Health of all infants and mother reported good. Babies weighed 4.4 to 5.5 pounds. The couple have five other children, ages 35 to 5.
