Investigator Post Suggested To County Board

The Green County Board discussed creating a new investigator post to serve all precincts on liability insurance matters especially for roads. Dist Atty L A Koenig urged assigning a sheriff deputy to the office hours, and Corporate Counsel Joseph D Viney proposed meeting with the sheriff’s committee. The board also moved funds to reimburse two members on the Federal Anti Poverty committee and debated OEO program withdrawals.

Vetterli Wins GOP Sheriff Nomination In Green County Race

Roy Vetterli edged John Lewis 2678 to 1756 in Green County to win the GOP nomination for sheriff. Vetterli carried most precincts including Monroe and Brodhead, while Lewis carried Albany Village and several wards. Turnout surged after 7 pm as election returns rolled in.

The Green County Ministerial Association heard Rev. Lowell H. Mays at Union Presbyterian Church in Brodhead. Mays spoke on observations from the Vatican Council he attended, and was announced as Edgewood College ecumenical studies director to expand theology. The Danforth Foundation awarded a $15,825 grant to Edgewood College for undergraduate study, guest lecturers, and lay seminars.

Albany Village Rejects Sunday Tavern Hours Referendum

The Albany village votes against Sunday opening with 171 opposed and 103 in favor. A May trial allowing Sunday afternoons was rescinded by the Village Board after citizen petitions and appearances. Total turnout yesterday was 276 of 369 last presidential election voters.

Lucey Wins Wisconsin Democratic Primary for Governor

Lt. Gov. Patrick J. Lucey captured the Wisconsin Democratic nomination after a four way primary topping 124,000 votes as Republican Gov. Warren Knowles led the GOP with over 214,000 in an uncontested race. Lucey will face Knowles in the general election with Kennedy family visits planned to boost support.

Patrick J. Lucey secured the Democratic nomination for governor by about 30 000 votes over David Carley in Wisconsin. The party lineup shifted with Lt. In Milwaukee area voting, two veteran Republican state senators with 40 years in the legislature lost renomination amid reapportionment shifts. Glenn Boss Couple Injured in Mishap

Mr and Mrs Glenn Boss Route 1 Browntown sustained minor bruises yesterday morning when Mrs Boss driving their car left a town road met a gravel truck and went into a ditch striking a tree two miles east of Browntown. The accident was reported at 941 am to sheriff s deputies with heavy damage to the Boss car.

Two Dogs Available At the Monroe Pound

The Monroe city pound holds two dogs in the puppy stage. A black and tan short haired female six to eight months old was impounded yesterday. Also in custody is a light colored dog.
