Charles Kettle Dies In Traffic Accident
Wisconsin's 1967 highway toll stands at 743, compared with 750 a year ago. Richard J. Smedekopf, 39, Oshkosh, died Wednesday from injuries July 30 when his motorcycle missed a curve on Highway 23 near Fond du Lac. Charles R. Kettle, 44, Hanover, suffered fatal injuries Tuesday in a collision on Highway 12 18 near Deerfield, a former state commander of the DAV.

They faced heavy fog across Kentucky Tennessee and Mississippi and were helped back on course by a Mississippi gentleman. Marine Medal of Honor recipient to marshal Cheese Days parade
Sgt. Jimmie Earl Howard, one of three living Vietnam veterans to earn the Medal of Honor, will lead the Cheese Days parade in Monroe. The Burlington, Iowa native, stationed in San Diego, received the MOH in 1967 for heroism in Vietnam and is slated for a Jimmy Howard Day in his hometown. He and his 17 member platoon from Co. C First Recon Bn. are highlighted in a tribute to Vietnam veterans with connections to the Midwest events and television appearances.
