Stock Market Rally Strengthens On Wall Street

New York shares firmed as optimism over President Johnson’s inflation curbing plan and lower interest rates spurred buying. Blue chips led gains with the Dow up 1.8 at noon, powered by Du Pont, GM, Goodyear, and United Aircraft, while some issues trimmed gains on profit taking.

Kiwanis District Session To Be Held At Monroe Club

Wisconsin traffic toll reaches 740 after fatal crash

The statewide traffic death total rose to 740 with the early death of 44 year old Clifford Abelt of La Farge after his car left a Vernon County trunk road embankment about 2 1/2 miles east of Westby.

Near Record Vote Possible at Albany Referendum

In Albany village 100 voters had cast ballots by 11 45 am with afternoon hours expected to draw near record turnout. The main issue is a referendum on taverns opening at 1 pm on Sundays. In Albany Township only 15 ballots were cast at the same time.

Races Spark Heavy GOP Primary Turnout in Green County

Heavy Republican primary voting in Monroe Green County as 12 30 p m tallies reached 955 voters vs 640 at the same point in the prior nonpresidential cycle. Ward tallies showed 155 in the Third Ward and 144 in the First Ward with Turner Hall confusion affecting voters. The turnout centered on three contests including sheriff candidates Roy G Vetterli undersheriff and John Lewis deputy.
