Roderick Injured In Motorcycle Crash Near Freeport

Roderick, son of Mrs Lois Roderick of 1524 20th Ave, suffered broken legs and a left wrist fracture in a motorcycle car crash Saturday afternoon on Illinois 26 a half mile north of Freeport. The motorcycle collided with a car driven by 34 year old Charles J Neff of Warren, Ill, who was uninjured. He is listed in fair condition at Freeport Memorial Hospital.

The Green County Democratic Party will meet at 8 p m on Wednesday September 14 at the VFW Clubrooms to finalize plans for the Kastenmeier dinner. All members are urged to attend and bring a friend.

Fire damages milk house at Cold Springs Farm Route 4

Fire reported at Mey Thaler’s Cold Springs farm six miles north of Monroe damaged the milk house and milking equipment. An employee, Robert Klubertanz, 26, was overcome by smoke and admitted to St. Clare Hospital. Fire Chief Joe Benkert commended farm operator Russell Ridge for quick action and fire department for rapid response.

Two Injured In Weekend Green County Auto Accidents

Deputies and police investigated multiple weekend crashes in Green County. Mrs. Wesley Moe of Juda suffered chest and facial contusions from a northbound crash on County Trunk 6. she was treated at St. Clare Hospital and listed in satisfactory condition. James Bucks of Beloit cut above the eye after leaving Highway 11 81 west of Juda. his vehicle tore down fencing on the Russell Bauman property. Daniel R. Schuur of Brodhead lost control on the shoulder near Monroe and wrecked through fencing, ending in a ditch. A State Patrol report noted a noninjury rollover on Highway 11 81 near Juda.

Training Plans Discussed by Green County Association for Retarded Children

The Green County Association for Retarded Children held its season opener to discuss worthwhile projects including a training program for the retarded, a cheese booth at the Southern Colony Fair, a St Colletta’s School choir concert at Jefferson, and forming a 4H Club. Michael Glass reported Wisconsin has 53 units. 18 teacher scholarships were awarded. A Southwest Regional training meeting will be at Platteville on Sept 25. Floyd J. Voight began a training project at the Commodore Inn Madison for retarded youths, using the facility’s resources to train them as future Holiday Inn workers.

Marty Receives Pilgrim Robe in Moose Ceremony Here

Jack L. Marty of 814 15th Ave received the Pilgrim robe in an 8 PM Saturday Moose Hall ceremony. He is the Monroe lodge’s first Pilgrim Degree recipient. The event drew about 200 guests including Wisconsin Pilgrims and officials from Moose lodges in Illinois and Wisconsin. Local dignitaries and family were honored guests as Franklin Laing served as sergeant at arms and Harry Kirshner addressed the group. A smorgasbord and dancing followed with The Nocturnes providing music.
