Nov 4 Legislature Set to Reconvene With Old Debates
Four state lawmakers expect little new legislation when the Wisconsin Legislature reconvenes November 4. They foresee a short session, with three weeks as a likely maximum, though Milwaukees Richard Zaborski hints it could stretch to Christmas if Republicans don t buckle down. Major issues include school aid deficit and repeal of a $2 income tax filing fee, plus debates over use tax repeal and voting machine mandates.

Food problem likely by 2000
A U.S. Agriculture Department report outlines a looming world food crisis by 2000. It projects more than doubling current food needs to feed over 6 billion, with little new land and insufficient capital to boost yields, primarily affecting Asia, Africa, and Latin America. The study warns imports from developed regions cannot bridge the gap, necessitating a tripling of grain output in less developed areas and heavy fertilizer use.
