PTA Workshop Set by District II at Monroe Hill School

The District II PTA workshop opens Saturday with registration 9 to 9 20 a.m. in the M Room at Monroe Hill School followed by an 9 30 a.m. session in Lecture Hall with invoc tion by Rev. Robert Olson and a flag ceremony. Walter Babula welcomes guests. John Melcher delivers greetings. Morning program features Judge Sverre Reang speaking on Juvenile Protection. Lunch 12 to 1 p.m. Reservations by Mrs. Jack Kundert. Afternoon sessions 1 15 to 2 30 p.m. cover officer training and membership led by state and district leaders. Installation of officers 3 to 3 30 p.m. by Melcher. District II secretary is Mrs. Charles Carrier. Counties taking part include Green Rock Jefferson Dane Sauk and Columbia.

State Pollution Orders Issued for Medford and Industries

Madison report says the attorney general's office was asked to move against the City of Medford and five industries for alleged non compliance with water pollution abatement orders. Field checks showed no progress on correcting pollution. Medford cited for polluting the Black River and several cheese factories and processor sites named for discharging harmful wastes into waterways.

Brand To Head Citizens Group In Monroe

Atty. Franz W. Brand was elected chairman of the Monroe Citizens Advisory Committee succeeding Paul R. Mueller. John C. McElhaney and T. J. Burgy were re elected as vice chairman and secretary treasurer. The panel advises Mayor Walter R. Ekum on growth and development programs and today studies teen curfew needs and the method of appointing the city treasurer. Mrs. Lois Hodgson resigned from the committee representing the Monroe Woman's Club. Police Chief Dwight Coplen was invited to the January 4 meeting to discuss the curfew.

City Not Liable For Spent Tornado Funds

Mayor Ekum said the Urban Renewal referendum will be acted on soon. City Atty Schmitz said $87,000 already spent in the tornado area project need not be returned if the program is abandoned. The city may be liable only for unspent loan advances. Aldermen voted 5-2 to reapply for federal aid for airport paving and lighting in 1968.

Arson Blamed In Major California Forest Fires

Firefighters say arson may have started at least a third of the 50 000 acres burned in Southern California brush fires. A 7000 acre blaze near Los Padres National Forest north of Santa Paula raged out of control, while earlier fires scorched 15000 acres near Santa Paula. Investigations target arson in multiple blazes. two 16 year old girls were arrested in Simi for starting a six acre field fire near Simi Valley High School.

Jaycees Summarize Community Survey At City Council
