Monroe celebrates the 1963 State and National Corn Picking Contest by flying flags all week and decorating with Swiss canton plaques autumn flowers and a weather balloon 200 feet from the courthouse clock tower. Monticello native and long time official Christ M. Stauffer 67 died at St. Clare hospital after his illness following a stroke in his Monticello home. He served Monticello as village president fire chief and school board president and held posts in church and Masonic groups. He entered the Assembly in 1956 and during his last term was vice chairman of the agriculture committee and on key panels. Burial will be at Highland cemetery after Friday services at Zwingli United Church of Christ.
