Tents Go Up for 1963 Corn Picking Contest in Albany
Two Nebraska winners attend next weeks Green County farm equipment show at Willis Riemer farm near Albany. Fred Morris of Lake Odessa Mich two row winner and William Buller of Brookings S C winner of the picker s sheller contest will be guests of honor at the Chamber of Commerce banquet for national finalists on Oct 23. Lawrence Fisher of Palmyra Neb has not yet said if he will attend. The 1963 state and national corn picking contest will feature an equipment display valued between four and five million dollars and draw up to 75000 people. Morris scored 92.58 in 1962 to win the two row crown. Buller won the picker sheller title after years of competitions. Both men are automatic entrants in this year s national contest. The event will be held on the Riemer farm next week with tents set Thursday for the exhibits. Buller, from Brookings, farms 480 acres with corn and hogs and has five children. Morris farms 400 acres near Lake Odessa and raises corn and hay with wheat as a cash crop. he is a World War II veteran and active in Farm Bureau and the Grange.
