Farmers boosted corn shocks amid green fall scenery as feed shortages drive longer shock duration. Shredding will follow, with leaves and stalks used as feed bedding and fodder, while standing corn remains green and moisture lingers.
Italian and local authorities assured there is no new rapid landslide toward the Valnot Dam reservoir. Albany special report notes Mrs. Don S. Trow 69 died suddenly at her Albany farm home after an asthmatic illness. Born Florence Knapp September 30 1894 she taught in rural schools before marrying Don S. Trow February 16 1916. Survived by her husband and brother Henry Knapp of Orange California. Funeral arrangements pending.

The arguments focus on trespass laws used by private businesses to exclude Black patrons, with related cases from Maryland, South Carolina and Florida. Shuttlesworth in Birmingham received fines and hard labor for a 1961 incident involving Freedom Riders.

Gov. John W. Reynolds arrived in Tokyo to attend the second U S Japan Governors Conference aimed at goodwill and closer relations. Ten U S governors participate as the conference opens in Tokyo and continues at Kyoto on Oct 21.
Madison Wisconsin cheese market reports steady demand for cheddar with ample supplies in most sizes. Large blocks and single daisies mostly adequate. Jonghorns and current cutting blocks show tighter availability. prices quoted for cheddars and various block forms range from 36 to 41 dollars per hundredweight.
Secretary of the Navy Fred Korth resigns effective November 1 after pressuring a delay on nuclear powered carrier plans. Paul Nitze is to replace him, with William Bundy succeeding Nitze as assistant secretary. White House says resignation linked to private affairs, not policy or TFX contract concerns.
