Guard To Take Federal Service Oath On Sunday
Members of Company B Monroe National Guard will be sworn into federal service Sunday morning at the Armory by Capt. Dwight Coplien. The 32nd Division activation order will be given in Milwaukee by Lt. Gen. E. L. Cummings to 250 personnel, after which the color guard will retire the division colors signaling transfer to federal service. Active duty begins Monday, with training and paper work for Company B’s departure to Ft. Lewis, Wash. Equipment will be loaded in Janesville starting Monday. 20 freight trains from four railroads will transport division equipment. Janesville is among 14 loading points. the division vehicles require 550 flat cars. A farewell dinner Monday night at the Armory marks end of Guards service. Col. Moldenhauer will be guest speaker. about 250 guardsmen, wives, and parents expected. Mayor Evans will offer best wishes. Monroe Chamber volunteers assist. Madison A Circuit Court judge found former Grant County district attorney Roggensack guilty of failing to file state income tax returns for 1958 and 1959. The court withheld final judgment and referred a constitutional question to the State Supreme Court after denying a defense motion to dismiss. First Green County physician recalled to active duty
Dr. Lewis F. Scribner Jr., allergist at the Monroe Clinic, named the first Green County physician recalled for active duty in the present crisis. He will report Oct. 30 at Fort Ord, California, with his wife Mrs. Scribner and daughter Deborah Ann remaining in Monroe until. Scribner previously served in the Army from 1956 to 1958, as captain of the 11th Field Hospital unit in Bad Kreuznach, Germany. He is a Detroit native who moved to Monroe from Boston in July.

A severe autumn storm at night struck and destroyed two churches and a home in southern Wisconsin.
