Texas Wisconsin Exploration halts drilling in Sheboygan County

A second search by the Texas Wisconsin Exploration Co. for underground minerals in southern Sheboygan County is halted. Drilling crews moved the last equipment out Wednesday after William Van Driest said bedrock granite was found at 1,876 feet. Five holes were sunk previously, with only one drilled recently before operations were suspended a year ago. The delay comes as Aus Chalmers Mfg Co. proposes to extend the existing labor contract by one year at eight plants with United Auto Workers locals.

Rayburn Improves After Pneumonia Setback

Dallas Speaker Sam Rayburn age 69, ill with incurable cancer and pneumonia, showed improvement after being unconscious much of Wednesday. A bulletin from Dr. Robert F Short Jr said Rayburn is out of coma, stronger, recognizes family, with stable vital signs and normal temperature.

Company B Readies For Federal Service At Lewis

Co B of Green County's National Guard, Platteville, will reach Ft Lewis on Oct 27 for federal service with the 32nd Division. An advance air movement is set for Oct 20. United Fund Seeks $21,326 to Benefit Local Children

Three agencies aiding children in Monroe would share 2500 if the United Fund meets a 21326 goal this month. Additional 10,000 Troops to Europe in new reinforcement plan

Bomb Found in Army Surplus Box Near East Troy

A farmer near East Troy found a 23 pound fragmentation anti personnel bomb in a box of Army surplus items and turned it over to Walworth County authorities. The box was taken to East Troy police and then to the sheriff's office where it was recased by officers from the 32nd Ordnance Battalion. The detonation pin had been removed but a strong jar could have triggered the TNT.
