Postal officials announced that the Oct 16 highway post office plan will enhance Monroe area mail service with new star route to the east and faster connections to Janesville Chicago and Madison. They noted earlier railway cuts and outlined four Chicago mail routes and a 6 pm pickup to speed delivery and connections to Madison via the mobile unit. A ceremony Oct 14 will unveil the mobile post office with local dignitaries and a school band.

Peanuts Harvested On Wisconsin Farm Near Monroe
Charles A. Smith of route 3 harvested two bushels from a 60 foot peanut row grown on his one acre farm seven miles northwest of Monroe. The crop dried under the porch to avoid premature roasting as a grass fire threatened the barn yesterday. Smith, 68, is a tiler by trade with a long career tiling farms from Dill to Edgerton. He was born in Kansas and came to Wisconsin as a child, now widowed since 29 years ago, with two daughters and a son.

Preston, hospitalised at St. Clare, underwent surgery and is reported in satisfactory yet painful condition. Floyd Burke freed him and rushed him to hospital.

Gottlieb Meier Dies at 84 in Green County
Gottlieb Meier 84 of 1211 13th Street died at 9 15 p m yesterday in Green County hospital after years of age related illness. Born in Canton Bern Switzerland January 31 1868 he immigrated in 1899 and worked as a cheesemaker then a farmer before moving to Monroe and later working at Monroe Bakery. He had no immediate relatives and never married. A brother had died. He attended St John’s church. Services set for 1 30 tomorrow at Stuessy funeral home with Rev Paul C Kehle of St John’s Church officiating burial in Greenwood Cemetery.

13 More Bodies Found in Wreck
At least 13 bodies were recovered from debris at Harrow station raising the death toll to 94 in Britain's second worst rail disaster. Victims were found inside two splintered coaches buried under a 50 foot debris pile after a Scot land to London express hit a jammed local train during the morning rush. An American serviceman and his wife were among the dead and a man related to another missing person described the frantic rescue. A northbound express then struck the wreckage from the opposite direction as investigators began a government inquiry.

A grass fire near the former Green Valley cheese factory in Jordan Township threatened the factory home of Mr and Mrs Charles M Stoll and a neighboring shed owned by Charles A Smith. Truck Crash Kills Martin White Jr in Crandon
Martin White Jr. 19 of Monico died when a pickup overturned on Highway 8 three miles west of Crandon. Driver Bob Meyers, 20 of Monico, told Forest County officers he fell asleep at the wheel.
