Francis S Gombar Sr 68 a lifelong Brodhead resident died this morning in St Clare Hospital after being admitted Sept 16 He was born Aug 17 1897 in Brodhead son of David and Frances Gomber A UW Madison graduate he earned engineering and economics degrees and a PhD He was a WWI veteran a surveyor and former topographic map instructor He married Gertie Skolas in 1922 who died in 1962 He is survived by son Francis Jr and three grandchildren Funeral services Friday at Newcomer Funeral Home Brodhead with Rev Lyle Stephenson burial Greenwood Cemetery Friends may call tomorrow night

Eight Choice Steers for Sale at Roundup
Eight high choice steers about 1050 pounds each will be sold Sunday during the Fall Roundup sponsored by the County Beef Producers and the Jaycees. Association president John Krebs said youths who caught calves in the scramble have nurtured and cared for them as club projects. The sale starts at 1 p.m. Sunday, with the steers displayed on the square this Friday.

Monroe City Council Weighs Fluoridation And Moonlight Madness
The Monroe City Council discussed a fluoridation request from the Monroe Fluoridation Committee and moved to reference it to the Board of Health and Judiciary for an ordinance. The meeting also approved a Jaycees supported Moonlight Madness gala and authorized Beef Producers to use a loud speaker and reserve downtown parking for Beefs Rama. The council approved nine venetian blinds for the police department at 139 dollars each, amid concern over drape costs and alignment with new City Hall plans.

State Highway Deaths Hit 756 for the Year
The Associated Press reports highway fatalities in Wisconsin reached 756 for the year, down from 819 the previous year. Francise Lloyd, 61, of Campbellsport, died Tuesday in Fond du Lac after injuries from a collision on U.S. 41 at the northern edge of Dodge County.
