The Monroe Women's Club Clothes Closet serves 65 plus children monthly from September through June. Open 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesdays, with entry at the Community Center rear door. Coordinator Mrs. David Burri handles operations and accepts donations of clothing and bedding, along with monetary gifts to cover overhead.
Police clashed with a 3000 strong mob as bullets tear gas and clubs wounded 12 people around a car bearing President Charles de Gaulle during a four day Argentina visit. Peronist followers sought to link de Gaulle with Peron while crowds surged through central Córdoba.
In a 52 decision the State Supreme Court ordered Fred L. Barnes of Milwaukee freed from prison for narcotics possession because evidence was obtained in an unreasonable search. The ruling reversed Circuit Judge John L. Coffey who had sentenced Barnes to three years in state prison at Waupun on December 17, 1963 after his guilty verdict.
The Communications Workers of America ratified a state wide contract with Wisconsin Telephone Co. giving 6,300 employees a basic weekly raise of 2.50 dollars.

A Republican week in Monroe includes an old fashioned GOP family rally at Turner hall on Thursday night. Warren Knowles son of a governor candidate will greet residents from 8 to 10 p.m. with county and state GOP candidates attending in town. The event follows a countywide motorcade and includes refreshments and an informal chat with Republican leaders.

WAUSAU Wisconsin needs more deputy state fire marshals for arson investigations and detection a representative of the Mutual Investigation Bureau of Chicago said Monday. Richard C Steinmetz arson specialist for the MIB said the few marshals Wisconsin has are overworked. He urged police and fire departments to cooperate in arson investigations Steinmetz spoke at a joint civic clubs meeting.
The first snow of the season fell in Monroe at 5:45 AM, melting quickly. Fred Ties, a Brodhead amateur weather predictor, said the snow would not have lasted to count seven snowfalls, based on an Indian moon age formula. He predicted 57 possible snowfalls by Oct 31, dropping to 28 on Nov 1 if the snow waited.
Detroit report notes slow progress in ending a nationwide strike against General Motors Corp. after a tentative national contract with the UAW. Only two local-level agreements were reached at Fisher Body Framingham Mass and Allison factory Indianapolis, leaving 115 of 13 local deals unresolved as workers stay out to back demands.

The Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled 6 to 1 that county court judges may receive salary increases during their terms. It says judges are local officers, exempt from midterm pay restraints on state officials, with a $13 500 minimum total pay and state and county contributions detailed. Justice Gordon dissented.
Rep William E Miller said the Senate Rules Committee chair postponed new hearings in the Bobby Baker case to avoid harming Lyndon Johnson's political position. Miller criticized the delay as a tactic to shield Johnson and keep the matter quiet.
Soviet authorities accused four Western attaches of espionage after barging into rooms in Khabarovsk on Sept 28–29 and seizing belongings. The U S embassy and Foreign Ministry dismissed the claims as unresponsive to protests over immunity violations, noting the four were on a train trip through Siberia before traveling to Tokyo and Hong Kong.
