Pope Paul VI arrived in the United States and met President Johnson in New York after a warm, massive welcome. Police estimated over 600000 greeted him in Queens as his motorcade moved through Manhattan. He prayed at St Patrick's Cathedral and later met Johnson at the Waldorf. the visit underscores a global peace mission with large crowds and banners along a two hour, 24 car motorcade.

Monroe No 2 took first with 1 480 points at the tri county land judging contest held Saturday at the University of Wisconsin experimental farm near Lancaster. Second place went to Monticello with 1 427 points. New Glarus finished third with 1 390 points followed by Monroe No 1 1 382, Juda 1 367, and Belleville 1 345. Seventeen teams competed coached by Kenneth Allen Roger Zogg Will Dueholm Gene Taylor Kenneth Kramer and others with Green County SCS staff assisting.

Carl George Holsinger former barber and restaurant operator in three Green County communities died at 1 20 p m in St Clare Hospital from a heart condition He was born October 20 1893 in Freeport and married Anna Chambers in 1914 He lived in Monroe since 1935 with his wife remaining active in the Methodist Church and Masonic organizations Services were held at 1 30 PM at Shriner Neushwander Funeral Home with Masonic rites last night Burial was Greenwood Cemetery Pallbearers included local names Survivors are his widow a son Keith of Freeport and two grandchildren Dee Ann and Dennis of Freeport A rocket launched toward the moon was reported from Moscow by a broadcast mass dispatch

Figi's Inc a Marshfield cheese concern buys the 75 year old Marshfield Brewing Co plant in Marshfield. Transfer completed Sept 30. Brewery described as the smallest in the Continental U S with about 9 000 barrels yearly, Honolulu plant smaller. 15 employed locally serving a 50 mile radius with four beer trucks. 4 H achievement program honors area youths in Juda Monroe
Brodhead Juda area 4 H Achievement Program at Juda High School named Dianne Reimer and William Severson area achievement boy and girl. Reimer earned a nine year pin and recognition in clothing foods nutrition home furnishings and junior leadership. United Fund Drive Kickoff By Local Businesses
Civic and business leaders gathered at First National Bank to launch the United Fund appeal seeking employee contributions. More than 20 solicitors attended a 7:30 a.m. meeting, with Monroe Boy Scouts escorting participants to boost support for agencies funded by the drive. John Fernan, chair, urged strong firm cooperation and noted payroll deductions as an option. Early contributions came from Monroe Sales Company and Kroger. Survived by his wife, five stepchildren, a brother and a sister, with Masonic and Eastern Star services planned. Burial in Highland Cemetery with services at Zwingli United Church of Christ on Wednesday.
