A Wisconsin farmer Donald Black and his son Jimmy underwent a kidney transplant at University Hospitals. Jimmy, 11, in critical but improving condition after the operation, had long suffered kidney failure and relied on an artificial kidney. Donald, 41, donated a kidney and was in satisfactory condition. The family has faced multiple kidney problems, including a daughter Nancy who died and Gerry with minor issues.

A plan to expand St. Clare Hospital in Monroe is authorized with a projected cost over 2 million dollars. The project follows extensions planned for the nearby Medical Center site and downtown Monroe Clinic. The hospital posted 7351 admissions, 46773 patient days, 732 births, 16 nuns and 290 staff in the past year.
The Southwestern Wisconsin Cheesemakers Association holds its annual meeting Wednesday at the Blaine gymnasium in Boscobel. N E Kirschbaum of Madison, deputy chief of the cheese division, State Department of Agriculture, will speak. The New Glarus Yodelers perform at the banquet and the annual ball follows. Officers will be elected at 3 p.m.
Larry Burns executive director will speak Monday in Monroe at the Green County Association for Mentally Retarded Children meeting. The 8 p.m. program covers the Shullsburg sheltered workshop begun to employ six mentally handicapped workers with room for 18, serving ages 16 and up. The project aims to generate $25,000 annual tourist income from Badger mine and museum, which opened recently and attracted 2,500 visitors, with $11,000 in net since opening. The first year budget is $22,300 to train and employ six, then 18, and support services for Lafay ette County's 500 handicapped residents. the workshop is part of a broader effort aided by LARC and local volunteers. The story traces fundraising, leadership, and plans for expansion and community involvement.
Miss Marie Peterson twenty of Darlington died in a three car crash on Highway 151 four miles south of Dodgeville Iowa County. She was in a head on collision with another vehicle when a third auto struck the wreckage. Several people were hospitalized. Her death pushed Wisconsin weekend traffic toll to nine. Funeral arrangements are by Sharer Funeral Home Darlington.
Motorists are urged to avoid Highway 11 west of Monroe as the route remains closed to through traffic until further notice. Contractors report cars and trucks traveling the graveled surface, delaying work on the project. Blacktopping is planned to begin Monday and traffic curtailment is vital to finish swiftly.
