Rural Music Program Extended Amid Budget Session

The county board extended the rural radio music program for one year with funding levied on townships and villages. Monroe and Brodhead abstained on the vote while the board rescinded a $400 transfer from the general fund to the county superintendent of schools fund. Dist. Atty. State and domestic Swiss markets show steady to fully steady conditions with fair demand for Cheddar types and ample supply for higher grades. Selling prices at state assembly points range from 40 to 44 for top grades, with Grade B at 38 to 41 and Grade C at 35 to 38.

Milwaukee Area Slaying Ties to ExConvict Jack Enea

Police linked the 46 year old ex convict Jack Enea to a fatal shooting found beside a rural road near Milwaukee. Dr L J Van Hecke counted ten bullet wounds and five 38 caliber slugs, with death estimated at 11:30 a m. Walter Brocca, last known to see Enea alive, said he visited a bakery around 10 a m. Enea had a long criminal record including assaults theft embezzlement and keeping a gambling house with prior paroles and prison terms.

Green County Tops Brucellosis Rating

Green County earned a top brucellosis rating as one of 19 Wisconsin counties listed as modified brucellosis free. The state now has 27 counties with the rating, aiming for statewide certification by July 1, 1956. County officials and rural leaders secured herd owner endorsements to qualify, with ratings valid for three years for counties under 5 percent herd infection and under 1 percent cattle infection.

Faure Cabinet Moves to Dissolve Assembly for Early Elections

France in a rare maneuver faces dissolution of the National Assembly after Premier Edgar Faure failed to win support. The assembly rejected the government 318 to 281, triggering Article 51 of the 1946 constitution which allows cabinet dissolution after two no confidence votes within 18 months. Pierre Mendes-France was ousted as premier less than a year ago.

The stock market steadies and rebounds after losses since the Sept 26 downturn triggered by President Eisenhower’s heart attack. Monroe Man Appears On Cheese TV Feature

Monroe resident Archie Myers Jr. appeared as president of the Wisconsin Cheese Shippers Association on a Madison WMTV program about cheese as a Christmas gift. Mary Ellen Jenks hosted and interviewed Myers about gift cheese making with Swiss cheese photos, while Myers runs the Swiss Cheese Shop. Another guest was Miss Barbara Brown of Independence, the current Alice in Dairyland, chosen at the Wausau finals last June.

Safe Driving Day Officials Issue Final Plea Tomorrow

Officials urge motorists to take it easy on the highways for Safe Driving Day starting at midnight. Monroe leaders including Mayor Dinwiddie and Sheriff Humber promote courtesy driving and personal responsibility for a 24 hour accident free record. Wisconsin Governor Signs Dairy Hauler and UW Funding Bills

Kohler signed a bill allowing dairy product haulers to receive about a 40 percent reduction in truck license fees, not limited to fluid milk. He also authorized UW to use up to one million dollars from a farm sale toward animal husbandry and agricultural engineering buildings. Other laws extend river instruction validity, cap reports for private carriers, raise cemetery maintenance assessments, and require annual operation reports to the Public Service Commission.

Kiwanis To Honor Ainsworth Tonight

Kiwanis will honor Ainsworth at a recognition banquet in the First Methodist church basement in Monroe. The retiring Wisconsin Upper Michigan Kiwanis governor will complete his year, with a dinner at 6 30 p.m. served by church women. He is the second Monroe resident to receive the honor after George W. Citizens Advisory committee mails letters to Green County Agricultural Society stockholders urging attendance at the Dec. 6 meeting to decide if the fairgrounds will be offered for sale to the school district The letters promote the site as the best location for a proposed new high school with plans to reserve part of the land for a Junior 4-H Fair and argue the sale could advance Monroe school expansion and community interests

State Groups to Lead Federal Action on Education Reform

A subcommittee report to the White House urges federal action limited to state groups and not directed at local school boards. The conference, led by James D. King of Brownwood Texas, calls for stronger Education Office leadership, adequate staffing, better research, and data. It includes six recommendations for state funding, tax bases, services beyond local districts, a 12 month year study, non teaching duties, and local fiscal independence.

Stores To Be Open Tomorrow Afternoon

The first phase of Monroe's Christmas shopping schedule goes into effect tomorrow with stores staying open through the afternoon. The same afternoon opening will be observed next Thursday, Dec. 8. Night shopping hours begin Wednesday, Dec. 14, and continue through Friday, Dec. 23.
