Facilities including Schools, library, courthouse, churches, Turner Hall, and Youth Center were prepared for sessions, with a second dance planned for delegates staying an extra night. Turner Hall may be used if crowds grow larger.

Blaze Damages Two Stores Here
Monroe volunteers fought a stubborn blaze starting at 5 45 in the Charm Center and Purcell grocery in the Peterson block. Fire Chief Bert Sickinger said a short circuit in a coal bin ceiling fixture caused the fire. smoke filled both buildings, four holes were cut in the Charm Center floor to reach the source, and water and smoke damaged stock and flooring.

John C. Doyle ages 39 of Snullsburg and James Burns about 62 of Shullsburg died from injuries after a head on collision on Highway 11 less than a mile west of Gratiot. Doyle died instantly.
