Green County reports strong adherence to the new state milkhouse standard that took effect today. A two month earlier survey found 92 percent compliance, higher than the state average of 83 percent, with many producers already meeting or needing minor changes.
American officials in Bonn disclosed they paid 200000 marks for a new history book and distributed 1100 copies before learning author Arno Peters was a Communist. The Red biased pages were found by a German employee who alerted authorities. The commission impounded 9200 copies from printers and halted further distribution.
Mrs. Mary Frei Sommerfeldt, 64, died at her Albany home at 6 a.m. after a cerebral hemorrhage suffered following a trip to Oak Ridge Tennessee with her husband Albert Sommerfeldt. Services tentatively set for 2 p.m. Monday at Sharer funeral home with Rev. Kyle M. Miller officiating. Burial in Hillcrest cemetery. She was born June 22, 1888 in Mt Pleasant Township and married Feb. 10, 1910. Survived by her husband four daughters three brothers a sister and 10 grandchildren.
Youths gathered for study and activities as Madison hosts Districts II and III youth conference. 538 delegates registered from Green and Monroe counties plus 65 adults, with 227 boys and 311 girls. A bituminous surface will not be added until next year and survey work on the Joda relocation may start early next year after public input.

Howard D Williams assistant to Purdue Treasurer suffered gruesome injuries. Rush Holmes 36 Fort Wayne survived with a crushed chest.
President elect Eisenhower considered keeping the Citizens for Eisenhower committee alive while signaling Gov. Thomas Dewey could serve as a troubleshooter or cabinet adviser. Dewey plans to remain governor, but may assist in emergencies. a later cabinet appointment remains possible. Williams discusses a post with potential cabinet links. Eisenhower and Dewey also talked about Korea policy and future administration harmony.
Fog cleared quickly to reveal sunny skies as temperatures rose from a 39 overnight low to 56 by noon. No rain expected this weekend amid extreme dryness. River locals note unusually clear blue water and visible river bottom for the first time in memory. Temperatures near 60 expected again tomorrow after tonight’s low around 35 to 40.
