Education Week Books Presented to Monroe Schools

Education Week Books presented by Cecil Jones Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 2012 for American Education Week were given to principals at Monroe elementary and junior high schools for library and classroom use. The ceremony was held in Monroe Junior High School library with Mrs. Adolph Vogel and Miss Margaret Kuster representing the Auxiliary.

Monroe Fire Department Thanksgiving Dance Set for Nov 24

The Monroe Fire Department invites rural families and local professionals to a Thanksgiving Dance at Turner Hall on Friday November 24 from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Louis Bashell and His Silk Umbrella Band will provide the music. Co chairmen John McLelland Robert Rufer lead a volunteer committee. Proceeds fund volunteer firefighters insurance and emergency needs.

Mishap Claims Life of Stephen Shippy at West McConnell Road

Stephen Shippy age 19 of Orangeville died from crushing head injuries after a one car crash on West McConnell Road three fourths mile west of Buena Vista. He was thrown from the vehicle and died on arrival at Freeport Memorial Hospital. He worked at Micro Switch in Freeport. Survivors include his father and stepmother. a sister and stepmother. two additional sisters. His mother died in March 1954. Cramer Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Forecast Boosts Grange Fire Crews Amid 140000 Acre Burn

An improved weather forecast buoyed crews working to contain brush and timber fires across Southern California. The fires have scorched about 140,000 acres and four people are confirmed dead. Structural damage surpasses 4 million dollars.

Two Country and Western shows tonight at the Monroe Junior High School Auditorium sponsored by the Monroe Jaycees. Proceeds fund the Children's Halloween Program and the Put Christ Back in a Christmas project. Shows begin at 7 and 9 p.m. Tickets available at the door.

About 200 children joined the Jaycees sponsored parade and program starting at Linclin School at 6 p.m. The Junior High Cadet Band led the march around the square before returning to the Lincoln School gym for cartoons and candy. Prizes honored standout costumes with Lyle Whitehead as chair and Gilbert Jelinek and Donald Miller as judges.

Michigan Governor George Romney will tour Wisconsin November 7 and 8 with stops in La Crosse and Madison. He will have breakfast with Winnebago County Republicans in Oshkosh on November 8, and additional appearances are being arranged by his state committee.

Injured Woman From Janesville Admitted After Crash

Mrs. Norman Gunderson aged 33 of Route 5 Janesville was hospitalized at St. Clare Hospital after an auto accident yesterday evening. Her car lost control and struck a bridge, causing contusions and lacerations. She is reported in satisfactory condition today.

Burglars Ransack Juda Grade School Struck Early

Jerome Kalk the district superintendent said burglars ransacked Juda Grade School and office, entered through a broken window and screen, opened eight rooms and desks, took money and damaged property before fingerprints and footprints could be checked. Green County deputies investigated.

Budget hopes rise as Green County faces 1968 levy

Green County Board of Supervisors heard the 1968 budget may reach 3,004,611.93 with a levy up to 9.60 per thousand, up from 8.62. Public hearing set for Nov 9 at 8:30 p.m. in the courthouse. The 1968 budget boosts medicare and Medicaid spending to 1,114,258.49 from 847,061.44.

Two Wisconsin University audio-visual specialists Wesley Parkinson and Willis O Waltman arrived in Monroe to plan a two day December demonstration for Monroe Senior High School.
