Olsen Retained as Monroe High Principal and staff changes

Lee Olsen will stay on Monroe school staff this summer and join part time next fall as high school principal. Ben Campa to succeed Olsen as principal. Olsen to work on policy revision, federal program tasks, and curriculum coordination while pursuing a Doctorate at the University of Wisconsin.

Monroe Chamber of Commerce secretary resigns after nine years

Vernon F. Bud Schillinger announces resignation as executive secretary effective July 1 1969 to devote full time to architectural drawing and art. Dearth reports the chamber seeks a fulltime successor as membership reaches over 250 with offices at the Masonic Temple. Schillinger will remain secretary through the National Turn Fest and then step down.

Five Died in Mishap Mrs Christman and Kin

A head on crash on Highway 11 near Elkhorn killed Mrs Ruth E Christman 58 and Miss Patricia Sullivan 20 and injured Mrs Richard Christman 26 and children. Kenneth Christman 21 and relatives suffered serious injuries with others treated and released. The Quast family also perished in the opposing car. Funeral services set for Ruth Christman and Patricia Sullivan.

Park Pool Opens June 8 With Summer Staff Listed

The Park and Recreation Department announces staff for the upcoming summer program. Jeanne Gibbons heads the Municipal Pool guard and instruction roster with Janis Kline Ron Eckstam Ann Wells Carol Barry and Bonnie Hartman on the guard line. Teaching aids include Kisten Kundert Ann Kundert and Sue Hendrickson. Carla Lynch also joins as swimming instructor. Playground staff features Sue Hayes as head leader with Kathy Dunphy Penny Brauchle Sue Mayer Colleen Dunphy. Hayes and Mayer return from last year. Pool opens June 8 and playgrounds June 16. in service meetings set June 7 for pool and June 11 for playground. Information and the Fun In the Sun booklet will be released for summer program listings and registrations.

Memorial Day Postal Holiday Observed in Monroe Office

Memorial Day Friday May 30 will be observed as a postal holiday in all Monroe installations. No mail delivery or window service will occur. Lock Box service remains open and special delivery continues. Nearby offices do not operate on holidays.

Wisconsin lawmakers hear that antisecrecy law lacks penalties for officials who hold closed door meetings. A bill would let district attorneys or the attorney general sue to enforce the rule.

Coroner Burke Hurt in Mishap at Freeport Funeral Home

Stephenson County coroner F E Burke suffered a possible skull fracture after a 12 foot fall down an elevator shaft at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport. He was treated at Freeport Memorial then moved to Rockford Memorial Hospital. condition improved. Orrie Tubbs said Burke misjudged elevator position arriving from outside about 11:30 a.m. Burke was semi conscious at the Freeport hospital and stabilized.

Blumer Is Still Termed Serious

Albany Times Special reports Pfc. Kris Blumer, 19, seriously injured in Vietnam May 15, remains in serious condition after major surgery. A government telegram May 27 to his mother says evacuation to Japan is possible in a week. Blumer, a village treasurer and Albany teacher, had unknown posting details prior to May 19 when he sustained thorax abdomen and left leg injuries from a mine.
