Ronald Weeden a 12 year old Mt Pleasant Township boy died when a tractor he rode overturned on a damp field near Albany May 23 The accident involved Gary Gill 14 and occurred as they hauled manure The coroner listed death as accidental No inquest will be held He is survived by parents four brothers a sister and a grandmother Funeral services are being arranged by Voegels of Monticello

Wayne King Orchestra concert closes Monticello tour

The Wayne King Orchestra performed at Monticello High School gym and later in Illinois towns Rochelle and Belvidere before a private party for Indianapolis 500 attendees. Wayne and Dorothy King plan summer in Colorado and Arizona winters, with future engagements at the Broadmoor.

Stores aiding in Monroe Dairy Queen race announced

Businesses cooperated in the contest to select Monroe's Community Dairy Queen. Mrs. Roger Stauffer chaired the local contest with a list of participating stores. Mrs. Ernest Wegmueller announced the queen chairmen for communities across the county. Voting ends today and chairmen will count votes with their committees. A maximum of ten girls per community will compete starting Monday.

A Summer Theater presentation by Monroe High School students is set for July 12 and 13 in the Junior High School Auditorium. Directed by Kent Duit the old-time mellow drummer in three acts is titled Pure as the Driven Snow or A Working Girl's Secret with Carolyn Weir as set director and Mary Zuhlke handling publicity. Browntown Band Concert Aims to Introduce Dairy Queen Contestants

The Browntown Dairy Queen contestants will be introduced at an 8 p.m. Band Concert Thursday May 30 at the Browntown Shelter House. The Monroe 8th Grade Band of 60, led by Allan F. Barnard, will perform. Contestants will speak after introductions. John Marty chairs the Dairy Queen event. Refreshments will follow. Rogers departs New Delhi for Pakistan.

McHugh Composer of Beloved Songs Dies at 74

Beverly Hills AP reports Jimmy McHugh famed for I Cant Give You Anything but Love and On the Sunny Side of the Street died in bed Friday from a heart attack at age 74. He recalled a sleepless 1943 night when a red crayon bedsheet sheet saved I Couldnt Sleep a Wink Last Night after a laundry mishap.

Skilled Alphorn Maker Joseph Gazaitis Dies at 82

Joseph Gazaitis known as Joe, an alphorn maker, died at 2 05 p m Friday May 23 in Green County Hospital after an illness of the heart. Born March 19 1887 to Frank and Worsherla Gazaitis he spent early years in Lithuania and learned Russian Polish Swiss and English. He came to America in 1909 settling in Chicago and married Amelija Merkis on July 3 1913.
