Voting for Green County dairy queen runs May 29 through June 24 with top ten from each community advancing. Finalists chosen by a three judge panel. winners crowned July 1 at Brooklyn. Qualifiers must be 16 to 18, high school next year, and residents of Green County.

A raccoon killed near a substation caused a city wide power failure affecting Platteville Wisconsin with 7000 residents and 4000 students. About 400 to 500 students marched two miles through town singing and blocking traffic until 2:30 a.m. Authorities note students sought housing and parking reforms and beer for 18 year olds as possible motives.
The Wisconsin Senate began the second week of debate on Gov. Knowles' highway safety bill, pausing without a vote on including an intoxication test provision. Senators argued about self incrimination, constitutional rights, and public safety as highway casualties sparked powerful testimonies and calls to lower risks.
