William Riese Named Captain Of Monroe Guard Unit

William Riese commander of Company B Monroe National Guard has been promoted to captain during weekend training. A celebration cake shaped like a cap was presented by Sp 4 Jerry Holcomb. Guardsmen plan to march in Memorial Day parade with the next drill set for June 17 at 4 PM lasting 12 hours at the armory.

The Green County Barber Shop Chorus hosted its 5th Annual Parade of Choruses and Quartets at 8:15 p.m. in the Junior High School Auditorium, followed by an After glow in Turner Hall. Fire forces evacuation at University of Wisconsin dormitory

Several hundred male residents of the 13 story east tower of Ogg Hall were evacuated at 6 a.m. Sunday as a fire swept the 11th floor lounge and recreation room. Firemen said the blaze stayed in the room and its contents were damaged with no injuries reported.
