The Federal Commodity Credit Corp announced a purchase of 24.5 million pounds of Wisconsin processed cheese for distribution in school lunch programs and aid institutions. Borden Co. supplied 18 million pounds, Central Cheese Co. 2.5 million, and L.D. Schreiber 4 million pounds, at 38.2 to 38.5 cents per pound. Additional bids will be sought in Wisconsin this week.

1964 Auto Toll Boosted to 326
The death of a Trempealeau County man raises Wisconsin's 1964 highway toll to 326, up from 245 a year earlier. Clifford Lee, 22, of rural Blair, died after his car hit a Green Bay and Western Railroad train on Highway 121 between Independence and Whitehall. Passenger Eddie Thompson Jr., 26, of Blair, was hospitalized in serious condition. Also, Woodrow W. Jones, 22, of Louisville, Kentucky, died from injuries in a two car crash on Highway 10 near Ellsworth. Jones was an Army private stationed at the Nike site at Roberts.

Five Die as Jet Slams Into Homes Near Las Vegas
Five people were killed when an F105 fighter jet from Nellis Air Force Base plunged into a Las Vegas housing development during a takeoff. Seven houses burned as flames spread. the pilot 1st Lt Raynor L Hebert, 26, was killed along with Betty Lou Le Dane 31 and her daughter Teresa 3 and two other children from the Paul Lowry family Derwent 3 and Josephine 3 months. The crash prompted evacuations of a 20 square block area.
