Monroe FHA Hosts Mother-Daughter Dessert and Installations

At Monroe High School the Future Homemakers of America held their annual Mother-Daughter Dessert. Officers were installed for 1969-70 with Ginny Bacon becoming president. Delegates named for state and national conventions include Ginny Bacon Debbie Scott Brenda Boss Donny Colney and Bonnie Nuckles as alternate. Junior degrees awarded to Wanda Dodd Glenda Lawver Miss Ross and Miss Colney. Fort Collins Colorado and Green Lake Baptist Assembly in Wisconsin were noted as convention sites.

Public Invited to View New Churchill Woods Apartments Site

Monroe Urban Renewal director Glen Schreier announced an open house at Churchill Woods Apartments for Sunday May 18 after a 1 45 p.m. ribbon cutting. 12 to 15 units will be shown. 70 of 86 are filled with seven more soon. Nine applicants remain under screening amid praise for the new housing program.

Area Car Mishaps Leave Multiple Injuries Near Monroe

Keith F Hudson of Winslow Illinois suffered a finger injury in a 12 10 a m collision three miles south of Monroe on County Trunk B. Sacksers car and Wessels car sustained front end damage in a separate 10 30 a m crash southeast of Monroe on County Trunk K. Jeannine LaBorde and Edith Cook were in a two vehicle mishap at 2 45 p m near Argyle Monroe. Luke left the scene of a 12 20 a m collision west of Monroe on Highway 11. Ivan Foote of Evansville an Albany High School teacher drove a vehicle that rolled over near the Rock County line. Further details appear on page 3.

Police withdrew from Mifflin Street as hippies and neighbors discussed grievances about housing, rents, and harassment. Mayor Dyke named 30 citizens to interview residents and address tensions after three nights of disorder.

Albany Board Rejected Water Project Amid Board Reorganization

The Albany Village Board, in a 6-1 vote, rejected adding a new water structure to the sewer project. At the reorganization session, committees were named with Edward O. Killingstad noting the chairman role. Actions included advertised bids for water tower reconditioning and approving a trailer permit on North Mechanic Street, plus renewing a property option on Mrs. Clayton Burt’s land.

Assistant Principal To Be Selected At Monroe High

Monroe High School will name a new principal as Lee F. Olsen resigns to pursue a doctorate at the University of Wisconsin. Ben Campa, the current assistant principal, will take over after Olsen departs for the summer term.
