Life of Christ In Hymns Massed Youth Choir Festival
The Life of Christ In Hymns will be presented as the third annual Youth Choir Hymn Festival on Mothers Day Sunday May 11 at 4 p.m. in Monroe High School Gymnasium with eleven youth choirs from Monroe and area churches. Participating choirs include St Victors St John s United Church of Christ United Methodist Albany Brodhead Immanuel Grace Lutheran Union Presbyterian and Swiss United Church of Christ New Glarus. Festival co chairmen and the ministerial coordinator are named. ministers will read scriptures for Nativity Teaching and Ministry and Passion periods with specified hymns list included.

Audience of four hundred fifty filled the Monroe Junior High auditorium for a spring choral program. Maynard Heins led the mixed chorus with Deborah Krauss as accompanist, performing Handel and other pieces. University of Wisconsin students Carole Ruth Mark Rosa and others joined for a bright second half, as Monroe High School and junior choirs wrapped the night with diverse selections.

Monroe Hosts Seventh Regional History Convention
The Green County Historical Society planned to host the seventh annual regional convention of the State Historical Society of Wisconsin on Saturday September 6 in Monroe. William Schere discussed arrangements with 15 south central region societies. Jack Kundert will chair at Idle Hour Mansion. Visitors will tour local museum and other sites around the day. The History Mobile will visit May 24 at Universalist Church for public viewing alongside the church museum.

The For-Mor Quartet from Madison will headline Green County Barbershop harmony night with The Singing Jensens The Yachtsmen and Green County Chorus in a program titled On Man River at 8 p.m. in the Junior High School auditorium Turner Hall hosts afterglow and final chorus numbers Keep America Singing. The For-Mor started in 1948 and has traveled 980000 miles in 21 years singing in 38 states and Canada. Members are Don King Harry Nedberg Kenny Davidson and Elwood Davidson. They are the only active long standing quartet in the society not using a pitch pipe. The evening features Southern Medley Dixie Ol Man River Mardi Gras March and Way Down South. Leon Rabe directs the Green County Group.

Steer Runs Loose in Monroe as Deer Trespasses Nearby
May 4 10 in Monroe residents report a black angus steer roaming the 2500 block of 13th Street. Sheriff deputies spotted it near Green County Jail then it wandered to Northside School and Sentry Store lot. Bystanders rope and secure the steer at 23rd Ave and 7th Street. Deer also seen at 2411 5th Street while a nearby squirrel nibbled corn unbothered. Franzo Camenzine removed the steer with a truck.
