Punishment Out For Pueblo Crew

Navy Secretary John H. Chafee ruled out punishment for all Pueblo crew members after a lengthy inquiry urged court martial for skipper Lloyd Bucher and Lt. Stephen Harris. He said the sailors suffered enough under North Korean captivity and dismissed all charges while preserving no further legal action.

Monroe MEA honors five retiring teachers at banquet

Five Monroe teachers totaling 145 years of service were honored at the Monroe Education Association spring banquet held at Monroe High School. Board president Rodney Kittelson urged stronger support for education as tributes, poems, and musical numbers celebrated the retirees.

Stang Speaks To 150 Persons At TRAIN Committee Meeting

Minimum Wage Bill Is Boosted to $2 An Hour

Senate and House labor leaders express support for a bill raising the minimum wage to $2 per hour and extending coverage to all but 500,000 workers. The reform would include farm workers and for the first time hospital employees taxi drivers retail and service workers. Existing 1966 covered workers would jump to $2 immediately with others reaching $2 by February 1972.

Fifth Graders Launch Weather Balloon Study at School

Lincoln School fifth graders launch balloons at Monroe Airport to study wind, air pressure, and weather forecasting. Students conduct reports and experiments with meteorology, aided by the weather bureau and a single supplier, awaiting returned addressed letters with findings from balloon finders.

UW Students Assist in Monroe School Concert Program

Monroe Junior High and Monroe High School choruses present a spring concert on Wednesday May 7 in the Junior High Auditorium at 8:00 p.m. University of Wisconsin instrumentalists will accompany the 85 voice mixed chorus and women’s choruses perform sacred and secular works from Handel to Bach along with show tunes and folk songs. Albany To Be Scouting Host For Valley Camporee

Albany Boy Scout Troop hosts the Valley District Camporee of the U S Grant Council May 9 11 in the Albany Wildlife area. Over 200 scouts participate with campfire reveille flag raising demonstrations lashings packing fires edible plants fishing and canoeing. Nicolas Leutenegger chairs the event and awards are given Sunday morning after campsite inspection.

Milk Price Hike Hits Chicago Dairies As Wages Rise

Milk prices rose at Hawthorn Mellody Farms Borden s and Deans in Chicago on Monday. A 14 cent quart increase follows a $17 weekly pay raise for 1 000 inside workers at dairies tied to the Associated Milk Dealers bargaining group. A 3 to 4 cent half gallon rise was forecast. current prices run about 59 cents in chain stores and 62 to 63 cents in independent shops.
