Motivation Days For Conservation Start Wednesday

More than 1,000 children and teachers join Green County Conservation Education Motivation Days launching in New Glarus at 9 am Wednesday. Glenn Thompson of Agency 15 head teaches, with James Schwoegler and Donald Siedschlag plus Extension reps guiding sessions on soil and water resource conservation. The program, by Agriculture Extension and CA No. 15, covers multiple towns March 23 to March 28 with schedules per location and grade levels.

Eleven Monroe forensics students earn A ratings at sub-district

Eleven from Monroe High School received A ratings in the sub-district Forensics contest on Saturday, advancing to the district meet at Whitewater on April 2. Competing with Sun Prairie Monona Grove and Middleton, winners included Chuck Vierthaler Al Vierthaler Greg Wagner John Schuetze Dick Pulkra bek and others in play reading declamation interpretive prose extemporaneous speaking and original orations. B ratings went to Linda Wilcox Anne Silvis Carolyn Silvis Sandy Hughes and Chris Wilson at Middleton contest.

Albany fire crews battled a blaze at Walter Flood’s Albany area farm around 5 30 yesterday afternoon. The family car, insured, was destroyed after an explosion caused the flames.

Sportsman Project Classes Begin for Youth

Conservation and extension workers join with Company B National Guardsmen to start Sportsman Project classes for youths starting March 28. Night sessions set at Monroe National Guard Armory on March 23, April 27, May 25, and June 22 with a July 17 afternoon session at a gravel quarry. Instructors include Monroe Guardsmen, Wisconsin Conservation Department staff, and local enthusiasts guiding rifle, shotgun, archery, wildlife, and game prep. Classes open to ages 12 plus, with up to two sections chosen per year.

Milwaukee Officer Fatally Wounded in Downtown Shootout

Patrolman James Rivers age 26 was shot twice and died after confronting a suspect at a near downtown Milwaukee intersection while investigating an apartment building holdup. Investigators said the gunman, 29, was wounded and captured after fleeing through courtyards as Rivers exchanged gunfire.

Two Men To Face Bogus Bill Charge in Galena

Two Galena businessmen were arrested Saturday after Secret Service agents found $180,000 in bogus bills and counterfeiting equipment near Keneth Sproule's home. The earth moving contractor's garage held counterfeit $20 notes, engraving plates, and a printing press.

Death of Kraft chemist George Pulkrabek at 63

George M. Pulkrabek a chemist and dairy industry authority employed by Kraft Co died of a heart attack while at worship service at Immanuel Evangelical United Brethren Church. Born November 7 1902 in Glencoe Minnesota he studied at the University of Minnesota and worked on cheese development and quality control. He served Kraft in Wisconsin and Ontario and previously with Marshall Dairy Laboratory and Milwaukee Cheese Co. He was 63 and survived by his wife Helen Ross Pulkrabek. Funeral arrangements pending.

Large Turn-Schwing Display Draws 500 at Turner Hall
